Actor Jerry Mathers is the host of the American Academy of Neurology Foundation’s latest patient education video and guidebook, Diabetic Nerve Pain: A Guide for Patients and Families. The video and guidebook are aimed at answering important questions for people who suffer from nerve pain due to diabetes. The video can be viewed for free here. Mathers is best known for portraying Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver, the adorable boy on the classic television sitcom “Leave it to Beaver.”. Mathers, 62, is featured on the cover of the May/June issue of Neurology Now® magazine discussing his experience with diabetic nerve pain, a painful neurologic condition affecting millions of Americans.

Fellows of the American Academy of Neurology Thomas Chelimsky, MD, with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and John Markman, MD, with the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY, also appear in the video with expert advice to help patients and their families. The video presents an overview of living with diabetic nerve pain, along with treatment options and tips on adjusting to changes that come with living daily with the disorder. The guidebook also provides a list of trusted resources for patients.
