To answer your question, you need to to do fingersticks before dinner and 2 hour after dinner. The blood sugar at bedtime is a combination of the blood sugar before dinner, blood sugar after dinner, and the effect of your evening snack on blood sugar. If your blood sugar after dinner is high, your provider may have to increase the amount of meal-time insulin you inject before dinner. If you eat this snack on a regular basis daily, your provider may have to recommend pre-snack insulin dose right before the snack to improve your blood glucose levels. After these two interventions if your blood sugar in the morning is still high, there may be a need to evaluate the dose of your basal insulin.
