Pregnancy and diabetes

My wife had diabetes when she was pregnant with our first child. How do I know if she is having diabetes again?

If your wife had gestational diabetes, she may be at high risk for developing diabetes after pregnancy. Within couple of weeks after delivery, she should be tested to see if her blood sugar is above normal. Consult with her provider to see she is asked to be tested. Expecting mothers that had gestational diabetes with the a previous pregnancy may be at high risk for gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) in future pregnancies (diabetes during pregnancy). Screening for gestational diabetes is recommended at 24–28 weeks of gestation in pregnant women. Consult woth your wife's provider on when she whould be tested for gestational diabetes if she is pregnant.
