Melatonin

  • Anonymous ORIGINAL POSTER
(I tried to post earlier but not sure if it was sent). What is the effect of melatonin on blood sugar? I am pre-diabetic. It seems that my morning (fasting) numbers are higher since I started taking 3 mg. of melatonin at bedtime. My monring numbers have been in the 114-119 range.

There is no specific evidence in the literature that melatonin directly effects blood sugar levels. However, there is some data to support the fact that patient that have difficulty sleeping or sleeping less hours may have increase in blood sugar levels. i would recommend to you to evaluate how many carbohydrates before you go to sleep. Eating less carbohydrates before bedtime can help reduce morning or fasting blood sugar levels
