There is no specific food that is preferred for a patient with type 2 diabetes. The idea is to reduce portion size of the food that you eat. In order for your medications to be more effective it is important to limit the intake of carbohydrates such as bread, corn, potatoes, rice, pasta, and fruits among other foods high in carbohydrates. Also, you should limit your intake of fruit juices, cookies, or deserts (sugar free as well). Based on your fingersticks before meals, and 2 hours after meals, a healthcare professional will have a better idea on how specific foods affect your blood sugar and will be able to make specific recommendations to you.
