Non Diagnosed with high morning readings

  • Bri ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi I have a family history of diabetes to include 2 aunts and a brother. I started to monitor my levels just as a precaution per my brothers request. My morning fasting number is around 130 however my readings throughout the day before and after meals are fine 95 example 2 hrs after breakfast. Should I be concerned about these morning highs? I have heart disease and am over weight however I am also recently back in the gym to do something about it. I also do not sleep well at all, could poor sleep have anything to do with them? Please advise. Many thanks for your time. Kind Regards, Bri

Dear Bri, Please make an appointment with your doctor so he/she can confirm your blood glucose readings and based on these readings if you will be diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Discuss with your doctor the exercise you are doing and the problem with sleep. Sleep will affect your blood glucose levels. Ask your doctor for the name of a dietitian, diabetes educator to help you loose weight. Please let us know how you make out. Clara Schneider MS,RD,RN,CDE,LDN
