When you fast you have to monitor your blood sugar more often, sometimes before each meal and at bedtime. You should consult with your provider if it safe for you to fast. In addition, speak to your provider about what dose of medication to take if your blood sugar is at a specific range. Some patients cut the doses of their medications or insulin to accommodate the decrease in carbohydrate consumption. It is not recommended to stop taking your medications during the fast, unless recommended by your provider.
