The rapid acting insulin Epidra allows for injection 20 minutes after the start of the meal if you forget to inject within 15 minutes before the meal. However, I would not inject after the meal because the insulin may start acting after the food is absorbed from the stomach and may put you at risk for low blood sugar levels. If you forget to inject insulin 20 minutes after you start your meal, I would recommend to wait until the next meal before you inject insulin. Consult with your provider if there should be a supplemental dose of insulin you can inject if your blood sugar is very high after the meal.
