Valerie Spain is a health communications and program management professional, a food and health policy advocate, and entrepreneur. Her management experience includes directing a Boston area community health program aimed at increasing access to healthy food and physical activity using a policy and systems change approach. Her health communication projects include researching and creating presentations for mindfulness-based approaches to diabetes care and weight loss. Valerie was diagnosed at 36 with type 1 diabetes and has lived with it for over 20 years. She uses pump therapy, a CGM, whole food diet, and exercise to maintain stable blood sugars. She also uses mindfulness meditation to manage the emotional ups and downs of diabetes care.
