Emotional eating. I am bipolar and have type II diabetes. When I am depressed or angry or just plain out of sorts, I eat. If I could control what I eat I would be much better off. I've been told that it's actually healthier to eat "real" foods rather than "sugar-free" or "no sugar added" foods. Is this true? I am on insulin and Byetta but I've had a great deal of stress over medical problems of my own and ones I love. For over 60 years I eat when I'm stressed, or angry, or lonely, or to reward myself for good behavior.    HELP!!@!! I know I need guidance because I'm definitely not eating correctly.

I responded to this the other day, but my post was taken the wrong way & was deleted. However, I wanted to post my main suggestion again in case you didn't see the post before it was deleted.

My main suggestion was to maybe eat vegetables to fill up when you want to eat. Many of them are crunchy (if raw) and can help the urge to chew/crunch something. If you still crave a certain kind of food, you could try to eat vegetables & then just a little tiny bit of the other kind of food, so you don't go overboard on the bad stuff.

Do you have a dietitian or diabetes educator or doctor or someone with a more professional background that you could talk to about choices for foods?

Good luck with your journey!
