During the summer months, and in areas where it is hot all year around, it’s important to protect your insulin from excessive temperatures. Follow these tips to keep your insulin at optimal temps.

Remember unopened insulin vials or pens should be kept in the refrigerator and are good until the expiration date that appears on the container. When your pen or vial is opened, it can be left out at room temperature and is usually good for 28 days.For example, Levemir is good for 42 days. If you are on a premixed insulin, the number of days varies. The best thing to do is check with the manufacturer’s website.
