sugar free cookies effect on my medications

I ate a box of sugar free cookies and my sugar went up eventhough I took my medications. Do sugar free cookies interact with diabetes medications?
  • Samuel Grossman, BS Pharm, Pharm.D, CDE PROFESSIONAL
Sugar free cookies may not have added sugar but they do have flour in them. Flour contain sugar. Eating sugar free cookies, depends on the quantity consumed, can reduce the effectiveness of diabetes medications. It is recommended to consume any foods especially carbohydrate containing foods in moderation
