Ginseng and sugar medications

Can ginseng effect my sugar medication and my readings?
  • Samuel Grossman, BS Pharm, Pharm.D, CDE PROFESSIONAL
Ginseng is proposed to reduce blood sugar. Since ginseng's effect on blood sugar is unknown, inform your provider if you take any herbal product like it. However, when you take ginseng, it is important to monitor blood sugar on a regular basis to ensure that you will not be at risk for low blood sugar levels when you also take different medications to lower blood sugar.
