When i am sick do I still take my medication or take some of them? I am not sure what to do
  • Samuel Grossman, BS Pharm, Pharm.D, CDE PROFESSIONAL
When you are sick and don’t feel like eating or have no appetite, you should still drink plenty of fluids. Drink fluids that provide a source of carbohydrates such as soda or soft foods like pudding. Contact your provider and ask them what to do when you are sick with regards to medication therapy. If you are not able to tolerate foods that you are normally consuming, the provider may advise you with regards to medication therapy. You may be asked to do fingersticks more often to evaluate the levels of your blood sugar. Your provider may advise you to stop taking a medication, take regular doses of medications or half a dose of your medications based on the level of your blood sugar.
