A wonderful blend of spices and a white cake mix makes up this Spiced Angel Food Cake with a delicious Cran Apple Topping Recipe included.

What you'll need

  • 1 pkg. white Angel Food cake mix
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon (for cake mix)
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 4 med red apples (e.g., Macintosh)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 8 packet(s) sugar substitute
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon (for Cran-Apple topping)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup cranberries


  • Step 1
    Add the cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg to the dry cake mix and then prepare and bake following the directions on the package. Let it cool in the pan, invert on a wire rack.
  • Step 2
    For cran-apple topping: Remove the cores and thinly slice the apples. Put them in a large skillet.
  • Step 3
    In a small mixing bowl, stir together the orange juice, brown sugar and cornstarch until smooth. Add the sugar substitute, cinnamon and water.
  • Step 4
    Pour orange juice mixture over the apples and cook over medium heat until the juice starts to bubble, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 5
    Reduce the heat to simmer and add the cranberries; simmer 10-15 minutes more or until the berries pop.
  • Step 6
    Serve the warm sauce over slices of the cake.
